At what age should my children first see a dentist?
We would like to see children around their third birthday. At this time, we will give a ride in the chair and perform just a visual exam to see how their teeth are doing. When your child is older, we will complete a more comprehensive exam.

My child has had an accident and his/her tooth has been entirely knocked out. What should I do? If your child’s tooth is knocked out during office hours and there is no imminent medical emergency, please contact us at 207-622 1488 immediately. There is a chance we can re -implant the tooth if we see your child within the first hour. When you call, our office staff can advise you on the safest and most appropriate plan of action. You can save the tooth or the piece of the tooth that is broken and place it in milk for transport. Try Not to Wash Or Scrub Off The Tooth. This will give the tooth a better chance of being saved.

We also accept Visa, MasterCard, for larger, more involved treatment plans we offer Carecredit, an outside financing company. Several of these companies offer interest fee financing programs. Our goal is to help you afford the dentistry that you want now.
Insurance
In this day and age, we know deciphering your insurance benefits can be confusing. We are happy to help you with insurance concerns and will file the necessary paperwork for you.
We are not a contracted provider of any plan; however, we will do our best to help you get the most from your benefits. We do ask patients to pay deposits for large cases of dental work and co-pay at each visit.
We feel that your insurance should never dictate the quality or timing of your treatment.

How can I safely whiten my teeth?
Many of our patients ask about whitening their teeth. Since each mouth is unique, we need to evaluate your teeth to recommend a specific method. If your teeth are cracked, chipped or discolored, Dr. Zembroski may recommend restorative services, such as veneers or bonding. If you want to bleach your teeth, we use Professional White strips, chair side ZOOM whitening, and Opalescence tray at home methods in our office.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?

Do I have to floss every day? Is it really that important?
Brushing cleans about 80% of your teeth while flossing covers the remaining 20%. Although that seems like a small percentage, this area is where all of the big problems originate. Therefore, cleaning this area is very important.
When you come to our office, our hygienists can discuss the benefits of flossing and recommend products to help you maintain your dental health.

I want my front teeth to look better, but I do not want to wear braces. What would you recommend?
There are a variety of ways to improve the appearance of your teeth without braces. One of the easiest methods is with Invisalign. This comfortable and effective product uses a series of invisible aligners to move your teeth. Best of all, no one will realize you're wearing them. We may also recommend crowns or veneers to make your teeth appear straighter.
If you would like to enhance the appearance of your smile, call us at 207-622-1488 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Zembroski. After listening to your goals and concerns, he can suggest the best way to straighten your smile.

Should I remove my old silver mercury (amalgam) Fillings?
Silver fillings (amalgam) have been around for over 100 years and have served millions of teeth. Not all silver fillings need to be removed.
The metals of some older amalgams over time expand causing cracks and the leakage leads to decay under the old fillings. Some older fillings leak so badly they will damage the nerve of the tooth.
The stories of mercury are not conclusive. Yes there is mercury in amalgam fillings but the mercury is bound with the amalgam. Some mercury is released if people grind their teeth or drink large amounts of sodas containing phosphoric acid like Coke and Pepsi. We recommend having older fillings removed when there are cracks visible, cold sensitivity, visual decay, or other esthetic reasons.

Is dental decay hereditary?
No. Dental decay is not hereditary but you can certainly be born with weak teeth. However, the bacteria responsible for caries (cavities) is transmissible. Parents who have high cavity rates can give the bacteria to their children via the saliva. We have procedures and products that can slow or stop the cavities.
